Gran Turismo movie to once more explore the lives of cars that go really, really fast
Having seen Universal’s Fast & Furious franchise only grow in popularity with each outing, other studios have come to the obvious conclusion that they, too, need a movie in which cars go very fast, occasionally furiously. DreamWorks has its adaptation of Need For Speed, Legendary has spent two years developing Hot Wheels, and now Sony is working on Gran Turismo, based on its popular Playstation racing game in which cars go very fast on different tracks, each of them boasting complex back-stories that only become clear over time, revealed through their nuanced reactions to the obstacles they overcome in the course of their character development, and also the course of their racetrack.
For example, “VRRRRROOOOOOOOOOM,” the Nissan GT-R says at one point, finally coming to terms with the fact that he never loved his father. Meanwhile, a Ferrari 458 Italia remembers his life-changing, sexually confusing friendship with another young boy at prep school, then bursts into flames. On and on it goes, presumably just like that, as Fifty Shades Of Grey producers Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti once more try to wring compelling story out of mechanical motion. And so we again delve deep into the fast car condition, our never-ending philosophical inquiry into why it is they go so very fast.
