Great directors cause chills in the trailer for new horror anthology The Field Guide To Evil

A few years ago, a burst of new horror-anthology films flooded the market, causing a bit of burnout in fans usually eager to check out such material. But when an anthology like The Field Guide To Evil comes along, all such exhaustion disappears, simply because of the talent involved.

An array of acclaimed international directors were assembled for this project, then asked to utilize folklore from their home countries as the inspiration for their contribution. And what a lineup of behind-the-camera artists this movie landed: Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala (Goodnight Mommy), Peter Strickland (The Duke Of Burgundy, Berberian Sound Studio), Agnieszka Smoczynska (The Lure), Katrin Gebbe (Nothing Bad Can Happen), Can Evrenol (Baskin), Calvin Reeder (The Rambler), Ashim Ahluwalia (Miss Lovely), and Yannis Veslemes (Norway). The trailer already creates an evocative and unsettling montage of lush-looking imagery, ready to cause you nightmares—assuming these folks did their jobs well. We originally wrote about this project two years ago when it was first developed thanks to the novel approach of making its crowdfunding an equity opportunity for online investors, meaning those who donated $100 or more would share in any profits on the back end. Time will tell if that investment paid off, but for those of us eager to see what some of the more intriguing filmmakers currently working in the world came up with when asked to scare people, the plan already succeeded. The Field Guide To Evil will be released theatrically and on digital platforms March 29.
