Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong enters rehab after festival freakout

Following an angry rant during the band's set at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas this weekend, Green Day has announced that frontman Billie Joe Armstrong is "seeking treatment for substance abuse."

Armstrong essentially flipped upon receiving a one-minute warning in the middle of "Basket Case," cutting the song short. He proceeded to insult Justin Bieber, ostensibly because Green Day, a punk-rock band that adapted one of their albums into a Broadway musical, has more integrity and deserves more respect than some sellout pop star. During the performance, Armstrong made it seem as though Clear Channel (the sponsor of the event) was cutting the band's set short. In reality, MetalSucks reports, Green Day started playing half an hour late and their set had to be truncated for the festival to stay on schedule.

The band's website says that it will be postponing several upcoming promotional shows for its new trio of albums—the first of which, perhaps not coincidentally, will be released tomorrow—though none of the official dates on The ¡UNO!, ¡DOS!, ¡TRÉ! Tour have been postponed yet.
