Greg Kinnear might star in a TV reboot of War Of The Worlds

It’s going to be much harder to convince people the earth has actually been invaded by aliens if they’re watching it happen on TV, yet Google won’t confirm it. Nonetheless, Greg Kinnear looked at the possibility of starring in a War Of The Worlds reboot for TV and apparently thought, “Surely someone will be fooled.”

Actually, there’s a good chance this latest iteration of the story will follow Steven Spielberg’s lead and dispense with the whole “this is really happening!” angle. Deadline reports Kinnear is currently in talks to star in a new retelling of the classic H.G. Wells tale, penned by Misfits writer Howard Overman. Production will begin next year on the series, which is set in the present day—and since it’s produced by France’s Canal+ and Fox Networks Europe and Africa, it’s not yet clear on which platform it will arrive on American shores. It will, however, be coming on the heels of the BBC’s own production of the story, that one set in Edwardian England and starring Rafe Spall. Hopefully at least one of the two versions will actually feature an alien tripod getting sick and issuing a gigantic sneeze, followed by another tripod saying, “Bless you.”
