Grey’s Anatomy’s Jerrika Hinton to star in ABC wedding toast comedy

According to Deadline, Grey’s Anatomy regular Jerrika Hinton has signed on for another series produced by Grey’s mastermind Shonda Rhimes. Hinton will now be playing the female lead in Toast, a “hybrid comedy pilot” for ABC that’s built around an engaged couple (Hinton and Jono Kenyon) and the real stories behind the wacky toasts that their friends and family give at their wedding rehearsal dinner. It’s sort of a How I Met Your Mother-style flashback-based show, and it was created and written by Felicity buddies Scott Foley and Greg Grunberg.

Interestingly, Deadline says that Hinton’s role on Toast “will have no immediate impact on her status on Grey’s Anatomy,” so it looks like another bomb or plane crash or car accident isn’t necessarily in that show’s future. However, if Toast gets picked up for a series order, “that will likely be revisited.” Still, though, “there is a possibility for her to do both shows,” even if that significantly increases the odds of her Grey’s character dying from a freak bomb accident.
