Groundhog Day meets teen angst in the Before I Fall trailer
Don’t get in a fatal car accident with your shitty teen friends after a high school party, because it could lead to you getting in a car accident that causes you to relive the same day from senior year of high school over and over again. That seems to be the basic premise of Before I Fall, a new movie based on Lauren Oliver’s young adult novel about Samantha Kingston, a teen forced to relive the day of her death every day for a week as she tries to figure out what the fuck is happening while also trying to change her fate. Zoey Deutch, who played Beverly in Richard Linklater’s Everybody Wants Some!!, plays Samantha in the film adaptation, which now has a full trailer.
It’s Groundhog Day with teen angst, basically: As Samantha keeps repeating her day and re-dying, she realizes her friends kind of suck. (Popularity loses its meaning when you know you’re going to die.) She also attempts to befriend the school loner, by chasing her through the woods(?). February 12 takes some weird turns the more Samantha relives it, but her one constant is that she’s determined to make a change in her life—in order to save it. “If I was going to live the same day over and over, I want it to be a day that would make a difference,” Samantha declares. God, high school is so dramatic.
Jennifer Beals also stars as Samantha’s mother. Before I Fall is set to release on March 3, 2017.
