Grumpy human Aubrey Plaza to play Grumpy Cat in grumpy Lifetime Christmas movie

Grumpy Cat, the series of cat pictures that’s also somehow a media franchise, finally has a voice to go with its hypothetically amusing feline face. According to The Hollywood Reporter, professionally dour Parks And Recreation star Aubrey Plaza has been cast as the voice of the titular angsty housecat for Lifetime’s upcoming holiday movie, Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever. The movie, which follows in the footsteps of such Lifetime holiday classics as Holiday High School Reunion, 12 Men Of Christmas, and Christmas On The Bayou, is the story of a pet-shop cat with a profitable facial deformity and the 12-year-old girl who can hear it talk, hopefully as the start of a fun subplot about the girl’s slow, holiday-themed descent into madness.

Plaza was given the role after an exhaustive casting search by Lifetime producers which presumably involved typing the words “grumpy” and “actress” into Google, flailing desperately at the “I Feel Lucky” button, and then taking a break to look for more cat pictures that could potentially be turned into movies.

Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever will air on Nov. 29th, 2014, or approximately 15 months after the last time anyone except its coterie of agents, managers, and handlers gave a damn about Grumpy Cat.
