Gucci Mane is going to be in Harmony Korine’s long-gestating The Trap
We first heard about Harmony Korine’s The Trap way back in 2014. Now there’s a bit more information trickling out about the revenge flick, that is apparently starring James Franco and Benicio Del Toro. Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane will also be in it, according to a GQ profile of the Trap House writer upon his release from house arrest. The magazine says Mane, who appeared in Spring Breakers, will “start filming with Korine again soon,” so we guess this project is actually happening.
Back in February, Korine told Dazed (via Indiewire) that he was supposed to make The Trap in 2015, but “issues” with an actor delayed it. Then it sounds like it was put on hold due to Korine’s short attention span. “We’re supposed to wait until this May to shoot it,” he said at the time. ”I just have this thing where I lose interest in things after a while. Even though that movie was ready to go, I have this other idea for a film. An idea kept cracking me up and cracking me up. I spent the last couple of months writing this thing, and I’m pretty much almost done with this script. I feel like I’m maybe going to do this new one first.” He described that film as “a cross between a Cheech and Chong movie and that movie Scarecrow.” Per The Hollywood Reporter, The Trap centers on a man just out of jail who attempts to “get even” with a “successful” childhood friend.
Korine is also working on an adaptation of Alissa Nutting’s novel Tampa, about a psychopathic teacher who seeks out sex with her 14-year-old students.
