Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Mackenzie Davis to appear in a Black Mirror (episode)

You might not know actors Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Mackenzie Davis by name, but you’ve probably seen their faces. And if you haven’t yet, you will once Black Mirror returns to television screens. The two rising talents have have been cast together in an upcoming episode of Charlie Brooker’s darkly comic sci-fi anthology series that Netflix recently plucked from the BBC. There’s currently no word on what kinds of damaged characters they’ll play or what strange things they’ll do, but we do know that they’ll be directed by Owen Harris, who previously helmed the second season’s romantically creepy “Be Right Back.”

The 32-year-old British Mbatha-Raw, who soon be seen on cinema screens opposite Will Smith in Concussion, caught critics eyes a few years back with starring roles in 2013’s Belle and 2014’s Beyond The Lights. And the 28-year-old Canadian Davis might be recognizable for her recent medium-sized, but key, part in Ridley Scott’s The Martian, if not her lead role on the AMC series Halt And Catch Fire. Black Mirror’s creative team has, over the course of the past two seasons, made a point of filling its cast with highly capable actors (i.e. Hayley Atwell, Domhnall Gleeson, Lindsay Duncan, Rory Kinnear) whom you know you’ve seen before, even if you can’t quite recall their names. Like that time they hired that one guy from Mad Men.
