Guillermo Del Toro’s Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark has a cast of scary actors to scare with scary stories

Guillermo del Toro’s Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark has cast some people to get scared, tell stories, and be in the dark. André Øvredal will direct Michael Garza (Wayward Pines), Austin Abrams (The Walking Dead), Gabriel Rush (Moonrise Kingdom), Austin Zajur (Fist Fight), and Natalie Ganzhorn (The Stanley Dynamic) in the adaptation of the bestselling trilogy from writer Alvin Schwartz, which is full of teenagers and scary things and the dark. The cast also includes the previously announced Zoe Colletti.

Del Toro, who is producing alongside his Shape of Water producer J. Miles Dale, wrote the script with Kevin Hageman and Dan Hageman (The Lego Movie), as well as Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan. It centers on “a group of teens who must solve the mystery surrounding a wave of spectacularly horrific deaths in their small town,” according to a press release.

In a statement, Øvredal said, “We spent months searching for and assembling the perfect group of actors to help us realize the most terrifying adaptation that we could conceive.” Del Toro added, “I am honored to support Andre’s vision and, with our partners, to bring the incredible world of Scary Stories to the screen.”

Of note for A.V. Club readers still mourning The Americans, from an A.V. Club writer still mourning The Americans: Abrams played a key role in this season of the spy drama; namely, miraculously not getting killed in a car by Elizabeth Jennings. He was also great in the just-okay Brad’s Status.

Oh, and there’s a GIF of the title, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Boo.
