Though reporting something as Guillermo del Toro's "next film" requires a bigger leap of faith than most religions, Deadline is doing just that with Crimson Peak, a horror movie that the site believes del Toro will direct just as soon as he's finished with Pacific Rim, his FX pilot for The Strain, and whatever other supernatural project or dog with a puffy, fire-spewing tail catches his eye before then. For now he's aiming for a 2014 start on Crimson Peak, a film that continues del Toro's fascination with haunted houses and titles with geological formations in its "very set-oriented, classical but at the same time modern take on the ghost story." Del Toro points to The Haunting and The Shining as examples of that classical take and sort of "big-sized horror" he's going for, but doesn't spill many more details on the story he wrote shortly after Pan's Labyrinth. He does, however, mention that the waylaid At The Mountains Of Madness is still in play, just as a reminder that no one should take del Toro's development slate as gospel until they're actually seeing something in the theater.
