Pitchfork Media learned yesterday that Richard Lloyd, responsible for half of New York band Television's guitar sound, is in the hospital with severe pneumonia, and has split with the band. Like bandmate Tom Verlaine, Lloyd's done more as a solo artist than with his old band over the past few decades, and has more planned. A posting on his website earlier this month says Lloyd was improving and no longer needed a machine to help with his breathing.
