Guns N' Roses, The Cure, and Erik B. & Rakim among the nominees for the Rock 'n' Roll Hall Of Fame
Just in case you members of Generation X weren't already feeling the cool hand of death creeping across your neck in light of R.E.M.'s break-up and the endless wave of Nevermind tributes in recent days, the Rock 'n' Roll Hall Of Fame has stepped up to nominate a bunch of bands that were you listening to only yesterday, way back in the halcyon days of 1989. Among the nominees announced this morning are Adam Curry-era favorites like Guns N' Roses, Erik B. & Rakim, and The Cure, along with Freddie King, Heart, and The Spinners. Other acts that have been nominated before and didn't get in—including the Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, War, and Donovan—are also on the list. Nominees are selected by a panel of 40 critics and scholars, who will now send this list to be parsed over by 500 more critics, musicians, and industry folk. In the process, at least five acts will be inducted. Not every nominee will make it in the Hall this year, but rest assured: We are all going to die. [Via the New York Times]
