Gus Van Sant and Lance Bangs remember Elliott Smith in an exclusive episode of Say Yes
One week ago, we told you about a new podcast miniseries that’s all about the life and music of the patron saint of depressed indie rockers, Elliott Smith. Produced by Louisville Public Media’s The Guestlist in conjunction with Kill Rock Stars—Smith’s old record label—the podcast is called Say Yes, and features musicians, filmmakers, and artists of all sorts talking about their personal memories of Smith and/or how his music has affected their lives. The miniseries is being produced in honor of Either/Or, Smith’s landmark album released 20 years ago this year.
Now we’re bringing you an exclusive preview of this week’s episode, featuring Gus Van Sant and Lance Bangs telling the story of how Smith’s music ended up on the Good Will Hunting soundtrack. After that, Nashville garage rocker-turned solo artist Coco Hames remembers what it was like to move to Los Angeles the week that Smith died.
Say Yes is released on Fridays, and you can find it on your favorite podcatcher as well as on its Soundcloud page.
