Gus Van Sant thinks he can do something with Taylor Lautner's acting skills

Critics savaged Taylor Lautner’s debut leading man role in Abduction, a performance that was colored by barely perceptible shades of adolescent petulance and intermittent shirtlessness. But sometimes all you need is the right director and screenplay to turn those seeming handicaps into assets. Enter Gus Van Sant, whose fascination with brooding, often-blank young men who occasionally take their tops off might lead him to direct Lautner in low-budget film based on a non-fiction article that Lautner optioned from The New Yorker, and turn Lautner’s de facto brooding, often-blank state into something approaching actual characterization. Unfortunately, details have yet to be released on the subject of the article, but here’s hoping for Lautner and Van Sant’s sake that it was about teenagers who work out their anger with the world by doing lots of sit-ups.
