Guy Ritchie's new movie's called Toff Guys, innit?

Guy Ritchie was a weird choice to direct Disney’s live-action adaptation of Aladdin, and the stories emerging from the set haven’t exactly assuaged those concerns. Thankfully, the Snatch and Sherlock Holmes director’s next project puts him in back in his comfort zone of pitting mouthy British and European gangsters against each other. He’s even calling it Toff Guys, lest you have any doubts that this is a Swept Away sequel in disguise.

As is often the case with Ritchie’s ensemble projects, the cast is something to behold. Matthew McConaughey, Kate Beckinsale and Crazy Rich Asians star Henry Golding have all signed on, with the latest addition being Hugh Grant. Grant’s enjoying a bit of a renaissance as of late, what with his recent turns as both British Liberal Party Leader Jeremy Thorpe in Amazon’s A Very English Scandal and the deliciously nefarious Phoenix Buchanan in Paddington 2.

While it would be great to see Grant pivot his nebbish charm into that of a bloodthirsty bruiser, he’ll instead be firmly in his wheelhouse as “a British gossip journalist with a reputation of going into people’s lives, and undoing them,” Deadline reports.

It’s unclear how Grant’s muckraking journalist factors into the film’s overarching plot, which is said to follow “a very British drug lord” and his attempts to “sell off his highly profitable empire to a dynasty of Oklahoma billionaires” that will no doubt be led by McConaughey. We’re sure it’ll be thrilling, however, as Ritchie’s greatest talent might be in his ability to cleverly coalesce two dozen different plotlines, innit?
