Hailee Steinfeld might star in the straight-edge punk movie Ten Thousand Saints

Hailee Steinfeld had a busy 2013 in Ender’s Game, Julian Fellowes’ Romeo And Juliet, and John Carney’s second film Can A Song Save Your Life?, and she’s set to have an even busier 2014. Deadline reports that Steinfeld is in talks for a role in Ten Thousand Saints, with Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini (American Splendor) attached to direct. Based on the novel by Eleanor Henderson, the 1980s-set Ten Thousand Saints follows Jude, a teenage boy from Vermont, whose best friend Teddy dies from a drug overdose on New Year’s Eve. Jude then moves to the East Village in New York with his hippie father, where he falls into the straight-edge punk scene and joins a band fronted by Teddy’s brother, Johnny. Steinfeld will play Eliza, a girl carrying Teddy’s child who “leans on Johnny and Jude for support.” That sounds whole a lot less "Juliet" and a bit more "Jeanie from Hair," except set in the 1980s punk scene—especially with the novel’s events taking place around Tompkins Square Park, where squatters incited a riot in 1988.
