Halloween lives, like it’s an unstoppable killing machine or something

As befits a supernatural serial killer who has been shot, stabbed, beaten, blown up, and lit on fire, yet still refused to die, even after being beaten with the metaphorical metal pipe that was Rob Zombie’s Halloween II the Halloween franchise is being resurrected. Back in February, we reported that Saw 3D and Piranha 3DD screenwriters Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan had been hired to “recalibrate” the franchise; well, apparently their attempt was successful, because production on the film, now called Halloween Returns, is going forward, with shooting set to begin in July.

The plot of the film is being kept tightly under wraps, although we’re willing to bet it has something to do with Michael Myers sneaking up on people and killing them. Casting also has yet to be announced, although according to Deadline Rob Zombie is not involved in this particular manifestation of the franchise. Dunstan, whose feature filmography consists of the not-great The Collector and the also-not-great The Collection, will direct instead. Whether this will be an improvement on Zombie’s last, brutal-in-more-ways-than-one effort remains to be seen. Either way, we’re sure ol’ Mikey M. will live to kill again.
