Halo adaptation stalls again in pre-production

Paging Uwe Boll! Paging Uwe Boll! After an 11th hour attempt to negotiate compensation packages with the producers (who include Lord Of The Rings team Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh) and the game developers, Universal and Fox have backed out on plans to co-finance the long-awaited adaptation of Xbox flagship game Halo. According to this report from the Guardian, that doesn't mean the project is dead in the water, but it may be running out of studios with the coffers to pony up the nine-figure budget. The aforementioned Universal and Fox are out, as are New Line and DreamWorks, which had concerns over the screenplay by The Beach author Alex Garland. Sony doesn't want it, because supporting an Xbox franchise would undermine its
PlayStation console. Hmmm… that leaves Paramount, Disney, and a certain critic-bashing German with lots of experience in videogame-to-movie adaptations.
