Halt And Catch Fire’s Mackenzie Davis to star in new sci-fi thriller
Some people just prefer certain kinds of stories. Dads love World War I tales. Our outgoing cousin only likes true crime. And Mackenzie Davis, one of the stars of AMC’s Halt And Catch Fire, is well on her way to conquering every single sci-fi universe in existence. She appeared in The Martian. She starred in the “San Junipero” episode of Black Mirror. She’s in the upcoming Blade Runner 2049. She was in some little sci-fi movie called Plato’s Reality Machine that we’ve never heard of, but she was probably great in it. It’s presumably only a matter of time before she’s announced as the new captain of a rival Starfleet ship, gets promoted to a position with the Weyland Yutani Corporation, and is revealed to be Supreme Leader Snoke.
But first, Davis will topline a new sci-fi thriller called Vivarium. Deadline reports the film features the actor as a woman who, along with her fiancé, is “in search of the perfect starter home. After following a mysterious real estate agent to a new housing development, the couple finds themselves trapped in a maze of identical houses and forced to raise an otherworldly child.” So, just another day in the suburbs, really. Damn those McMansions! The film will be directed by Lorcan Finnegan, whose debut Without Name, a smart little eco-horror thriller, came out last year. Vivarium begins shooting in September, by which point there will likely be no sci-fi properties remaining that don’t already have Davis on board. And then she wept, for there were no more worlds left to conquer.
