Han Solo himself helps announce Disneyland’s Star Wars experience

Harrison Ford must have been running out his contract with Lucasfilm last night, because he took to the stage at ABC’s Disneyland 60 special to offer a first look at the new Star Wars Experience planned for the House Of Mouse’s theme parks. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the theme park expansions will take guests “to a never-before-seen planet, a remote trading port, and one of the last stops before wild space where the Star Wars characters and their stories come to life.” More importantly, guests of the park will get to pilot the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy, the Millennium Falcon.

The presentation featured the McQuarrie-esque concept art that was revealed last August, as well as some short clips of the artists hard at work behind the scenes. At 14-acres, the expansions—set for both Disneyland in Anaheim and Walt Disney World in Orlando— are the largest single-themed expansions to the Disney theme parks. In addition to being able to board the Falcon, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a cocktail at the local cantina or suck down some blue milk at “the planet’s best dinner club.”

The new expansion certainly seems to be focusing on The Force Awakens, but also appears to be attempting to retain that ramshackle charm of the original trilogy without a midichlorian clinic in sight. Disney has yet not announced an opening date.
