Hands On A Hardbody to become a musical

Variety reports that the wonderful 1997 documentary Hands on a Hardbody will be turned into a Broadway musical with the assistance of High Fidelity lyricist Amanda Green. The film documents a Texas endurance contest to determine who could keep their hand or hands on a hardbody truck the longest. The winner remained upright and awake an astonishing 77 hours to claim their prize, a spiffy new truck.

Robert Altman previously tried to adapt the documentary into an ensemble narrative film without success. Transforming a documentary about people trying to remain awake into a song-filled crowd-pleaser is a daunting challenge yet we remain, as always, cautiously optimistic.
