Handsome man Jon Hamm casually admits to being a real-life hero
The red carpet sometimes turns into a venue of one-upmanship, because even celebrities struggle to be remembered when they’re all concentrated in one spot. At this weekend’s premiere of Keeping Up With The Joneses, for example, Gal Gadot called dibs on the stories from the set, telling The Hollywood Reporter that “[i]t was always who was going to make who laugh first, who is going to have the best punch line, who is going to break the take because they burst out laughing.” Her co-star Isla Fisher then humble bragged about living next door to Eric Idle, who once saw fit to dole out a Life Of Brian quote.
Jon Hamm, who plays the spy husband to Gadot’s secret-agent character, also told a story about one of his neighbors, whose life he just happened to save. Hamm recalled the time his 90-year-old neighbor fell from a ladder and cracked his head on his driveway. The sight of blood spurred the Mad Men alum into action:
I just [jumped] over the thing and I’m thinking, ‘Cub scouts, what do you do?’ I got him untangled from the ladder and all of the tree branches off of him, and I undid his collar and I put some stuff on his head to put pressure on it. He didn’t speak English so I was having a hard time explaining to him, ‘Breathe, breathe, breathe.’ And the ambulance came and took him away. He was fine, thank god, but it was terrifying. I have very good relationships with my neighbors. They like me a lot.
Hamm’s real-life heroics, matter-of-factly laid out as they were, obviously made for the best story from the Joneses cast. Unfortunately, Zach Galifianakis’ anecdote is missing from THR’s red-carpet report, but we’ll just assume that he brought up his recent Between Two Ferns coup.
