Hank Williams Jr. has been officially dropped from Monday Night Football
Now when Hank Williams Jr. tries to make an analogy about the supposed silliness of Republicans fraternizing with Democrats, he can say, "That's like me playing golf with ESPN!" The sports network officially ended its association with the country music star in the wake of his Obama-is-like-Hitler comments on Fox & Friends. In a brief statement, ESPN said it "decided to part ways with Hank Williams, Jr. We appreciate his contributions over the past years. The success of Monday Night Football has always been about the games and that will continue."
As for Williams, he and his rowdy friends insist that Bocephus is the one walking away. On his website Williams wrote: "After reading hundreds of e-mails, I have made MY decision. By pulling my opening Oct 3rd, You (ESPN) stepped on the Toes of The First Amendment Freedom of Speech, so therefore Me, My Song, and All My Rowdy Friends are OUT OF HERE. It’s been a great run."
Either way, "Are you ready for some footballlllll?!" has been given its walking papers. Until the next dumb football theme song comes around, we shall enjoy the silence. [Via The Atlantic]
