Christmas songs, as heartwarming and festive as they may be, tend to stick to a few well-worn tropes (coming home for Christmas, bein’ with your baby on Christmas, Santa doing various things with people’s moms on Christmas, etc.). So it’s refreshing to see someone give a rousing musical treatment to an as-yet-unexplored aspect of the holiday season: the Christmas sandwich. Although it was posted two Christmases ago, Christopher Dennis & The Swede Michaels Choir’s ode to the fate of many a leftover turkey or ham has kept pretty fresh. Dennis allegedly wrote “Christmas Sandwich” as a gift for his family when he couldn’t afford anything else, which makes is as great a winter tale as any. Plus, the fact that the cast of the video looks like it could very well be Dennis’ legitimate family and friends really makes the whole endeavor that much more endearing.
