Harley Quinn Smith wants to play her namesake in Gotham City Sirens
Say what you will about Suicide Squad (you already have), but Margot Robbie managed to transcend the dreck and turn in a great performance as Harley Quinn. She’s the reason we’re cautiously optimistic about the developing Gotham City Sirens movie; Squad director David Ayer’s involvement, meanwhile, tempers our enthusiasm somewhat. But there’s at least one person who’s already sold on the idea: Harley Quinn Smith, Yoga Hosers actress and daughter of Comic Book Man Kevin Smith. The younger Smith tells ComicBook.com she’s angling to play a young Harleen Quinzel in the movie.
Before they even mentioned that she was going to make a spinoff, I talked to my agent and I was like, ‘Honestly, I know this isn’t even a project yet, but I just want you to know that when the day comes that they do start putting this into production I need you to make sure, if there is a young Harley Quinn role, that no one other than Harley Quinn plays that role.’ [My agent] was like, ‘Okay…’ [laughs] I don’t even know how long I’ve been waiting for this.
Smith recently made her onscreen comics debut under her dad’s watchful eye on Supergirl, but she tells ComicBook.com that she’s more interested in playing villains going forward.
