Harmony Korine directs Rihanna’s revenge fantasy in the video for “Needed Me”
In celebration of this most auspicious day—that is, 4/20—Rihanna has dropped the video for her Anti track “Needed Me.” The singer counted down the release via tweets and smoking GIFs, naturally, after enlisting Spring Breakers director Harmony Korine to take her through her latest revenge fantasy. There’s no James Franco, but there are plenty of guns and masked motorcycle riders, including Rihanna, who strides through a strip club to reach her target. The video is below, and is a little NSFW.
It’s not quite as cinematic as “Bitch Better Have My Money,” but “Needed Me” still features Rihanna as a badass who unflinchingly takes out her foe after singing “Didn’t they tell you that I was a savage / Fuck your white horse and carriage.” Rihanna has said the song isn’t about any one disappointing person in her life, but rather all of them.
