Harmony Korine is taking over Chicago's Music Box Theatre, and we're giving away tickets

Where were you the first time you saw the kid eating spaghetti in that filthy, disgusting bathtub? Of all the shocking scenes in Harmony Korine’s 1997 directorial debut Gummo, that’s the one that’s still lodged in our imaginations. Of course, the cinematic triggers that light up your brain’s individual repulsion/fascination center may vary: Maybe the anarchistic pranksters humping dumpsters in old-man masks in Trash Humpers (2009) is more your nightmare speed. If not, perhaps we could interest you in Werner Herzog nursing a bottle of Robitussin? James Franco mimicking fellatio on a gun? Buckwheat giving the Pope a bath?

All these and more will be unspooled in 35mm at Chicago’s Music Box Theatre, which this month is playing host to the series Don’t Rest On Your Laurel And Hardy: The Films Of Harmony Korine, a “near complete” retrospective of Korine’s work from Kids (1996) to Vice and NEON’s upcoming The Beach Bum (2019). Korine himself will be on hand for a discussion after advance screenings of The Beach Bum, and every film in the series will be accompanied by shorts, music videos, and ephemera from Korine’s depraved, druggy filmography.

We’re giving away two series passes to this transcendently weird collection of films, each accompanied by a poster for the series created by The Mall Video Club’s Mike Perry. And if you’re not one of those winners, don’t worry: We’re also giving away two tickets to the 9:30 p.m. showing of The Beach Bum on March 18.
