Harrison Ford and Jamie Lee Curtis don't know what's going on with the Marvel Cinematic Universe (and why should they!)

You already know Harrison Ford isn't going to answer obscure Marvel trivia

If the rest of us are having trouble keeping up with the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s phases and multiverses and various interconnected plotlines, we simply cannot expect our great cinematic icons to keep up with the ins and outs. Especially Harrison Ford, who famously doesn’t know and doesn’t care about the lore of his own franchises. Unfortunately, if you’re promoting a movie at Comic-Con, you’re going to get asked nerd shit like whether Indiana Jones or Thunderbolt Ross is better at handling snakes. “This is a ‘Who shot first, Greedo or Han Solo.’ I’ve always treated these questions with the utmost respect and somehow, at the same time, complete disdain. I will not answer that stupid question,” Ford told Entertainment Weekly. “But thank you. Delighted to have the opportunity.”

Harrison Ford is a very funny guy, and he did spend San Diego Comic-Con exaggerating his own lack of knowledge about the MCU, like feigning surprise that there are multiple Hulks (besides his own character, Red Hulk) in the EW interview. But seriously, the guy has no interest in keeping up with all the lore. Screen Rant completely befuddled him asking about Deadpool & Wolverine’s introduction of Anchor Beings and who might qualify on Earth-616: “616? I am in universe 616? … I am out of my orbit,” he replied before walking away.

The thing is, the whole concept of “ask the older actor about the ultra-involved backstory” schtick has become a game in and of itself, where it seems that the purpose of it is to prompt a classic curmudgeonly response from Ford rather than actually seeking a real answer. With Marvel Studios, the whole franchise has become so ultra-involved that just trying to keep up with it has literally become a game. For MTV, Josh Horowitz asked a bunch of non-Marvel stars what phase Marvel is in while interviewing casts at SDCC. Of course, the most viral answer was Jamie Lee Curtis, who simply replied “bad.”

Curtis has been beefing with Marvel since Everything Everywhere All At Once, so this too feels a bit like a setup. It’s not unlike asking Martin Scorsese what he thinks about superhero movies over and over again. The response is already a foregone conclusion. And for what it’s worth, Ford has only glowing things to say about working on Captain America: Brave New World and even Curtis has said she’d still work with the studio if offered a role. Obviously, they’re buying into the nerd shit to some extent, but must we torment them with the knowledge of phases and Deadpool & Wolverine? Let’s have some respect for our elders!
