Hasbro learns its lesson, includes Black Widow in first line of Civil War toys
Captain America: Civil War isn’t out yet (more’s the pity), but the film’s relevant merchandise is already seeing the light of day. Now, a certain segment of the population—we’re obviously talking about Marvel fans here—had begun to resign itself to waiting as the same old (male) molds were filled anew with plastic (or whatever toys are made of these days) whenever a new movie was released. After all, it’s not like the people comprising said segment even buy toys, let alone want (or need) to see themselves represented in a line that pertains to some of their favorite movies.
At least, that seemed to be the reasoning behind the various omissions of female characters from the films’ corresponding toy lines, which prompted such risible decisions as releasing a line of all-male dinosaur toys in the wake of Jurassic World, or replacing Black Widow with other (male) Avengers in the toy set that commemorates one of the best action sequences in Age Of Ultron. That last gaffe was Hasbro’s (well, and Mattel’s), who went on to leave Rey out of its Star Wars Monopoly game to purportedly avoid spoilers, despite including Finn and Kylo Ren (but that’s cool, they probably didn’t do much in the movie).
But the toy company appears to have learned its lesson, releasing a line of Captain America: Civil War toys that features the first Titan-scale (that’s 12 inch) Black Widow action figure, in addition to the smaller Miniverse and Legend versions. The Titan-scale Black Widow is featured above, and here’s an image of what appears to be the Legend version, complete with what looks like an homage to Iron Man.
The other Avengers are featured as well, including Captain America, Iron Man, Hawkeye, and, for the first time, Black Panther. (We’re sure that once he gets his own movie, the T’Challa toy will get to be photographed standing next to one of the cool Avengers.)
