Hayley Atwell and Kiefer Sutherland adjust to their new jobs in ABC’s previews
In the lead up to its 2016 upfront presentation, ABC shed several underwhelming or underperforming series, including Marvel’s Agent Carter. As disappointing as that news was, it wasn’t that surprising given the show’s ratings, as well as the fact that Peggy Carter herself, Hayley Atwell, was recently assigned to Conviction. Atwell stars as Hayes Morrison, a former First Daughter of the Bush twins variety who nonetheless has a brilliant legal mind. She’s tasked with leading the Conviction Integrity Unit, which is kind of like the government’s Innocence Project. Despite the multiple references to cocaine, the show doesn’t sound like nearly as much as Agent Carter, but see for yourselves:
ABC’s previews also introduced the world to President Kiefer Sutherland in Designated Survivor. As the title suggests, Sutherland’s character is entrusted with the presidency after everyone else on Capitol Hill drinks too much. We’re kidding, of course—he takes office after everyone else on Capitol Hill is killed.
We also got our first look at the newest addition to Shondaland, Still Star-Crossed. The YA adaptation picks up where Romeo And Juliet left off and just kind of starts over again: The Capulets and Montagues continue to fight, and an ill-fated romance blossoms.
The alphabet network also provided the first glimpse at Time After Time, Kevin Williamson’s adaptation of Karl Alexander’s novel which stars Freddie Stroma as author/time traveler H.G. Wells.
Former USA Network Characters Piper Perabo and Daniel Sunjata have teamed up for Notorious, the drama inspired by Larry King and some good old corporate synergy. Perabo plays a hotshot news producer and Sunjata a hotshot lawyer, whom we will presumably learn are just parts of King’s personality.
Look who’s talking now—a dog with a webseries (that’s what all those talking heads are for, right?). Downward Dog stars Fargo’s Allison Tolman as an ad exec whom we previously reported was going to get advice from her dog, but in this trailer just seems to be dealing with his chaos. That, or they’re falling in love—we’re not sure.
