Hayley Atwell has been hounding Marvel for an Agent Carter movie

As much as Robert Downey Jr. clearly enjoys playing Tony Stark, there probably isn’t anybody in the Marvel Cinematic Universe who really loves their character as much as Hayley Atwell, who played Peggy Carter in Captain America: The First Avenger, starred in her own Agent Carter series on ABC, and has popped up in little cameos elsewhere in the MCU. Unfortunately, with Agent Carter getting canceled and Peggy herself dying off-screen in Captain America: Civil War, we may have seen the last of Atwell’s character—unless she gets any say in it. In a recent interview with Comic Book Resources, Atwell talked about what it was like when Agent Carter got canceled, and she revealed that she’s still holding on to the hope that Peggy Carter will come back in some way.

In fact, Atwell says she’s been known to “hound” Marvel Studios co-president Louis D’Esposito about giving her a movie, noting that the later Captain America movies have confirmed her character lived a long, adventure-filled life outside of what we saw in Agent Carter. She says she’s “banking on” waiting until she’s “in [her] fifties” and then coming back to “see what Peggy’s up to in this decade.” As for Agent Carter itself, Atwell says it’s “still a much-loved show for the people involved in the making of it,” and she’d be “very happy” to go back to it if she gets the chance.

That being said, it doesn’t seem especially likely that ABC—or some other network/streaming service—actually would resurrect Agent Carter. Atwell is already on a new show at the network (Conviction), and Netflix also passed on an Arrested Development-style rescue. But who knows, maybe the Avengers will fight Kang after they battle Thanos in the Infinity War movies, and then they’ll get to do some time travel-based movies in a decade or so.
