HBO buys Tracey Ullman sketch show, sets Pete Holmes and T.J. Miller specials
Last March, we reported that Tracey Ullman was taking her sketch comedy talents to the BBC for a new six-part comedy series. At the time, there was no plan to bring the show over to the U.S., but now HBO has announced that it will begin airing Tracey Ullman’s Show on October 28. This move reunites Ullman with the network that aired her Tracey Takes On… series in the ’90s. and According to Deadline the new sketch show features Ullman “playing various characters…including Dame Judi Dench and Angela Merkel.”
In addition to Tracey Ullman’s Show, HBO has also announced a handful of new stand-up comedy specials. First up is Pete Holmes: Face And Sounds, which was taped in Chicago in April and will air on HBO at some point later this year. Then there’s All Def Comedy, which is hosted by Tony Rock and features “rising comedy stand-up talent.” It’ll air in November.
A new special from The Carmichael Show’s Jerrod Carmichael will debut next year (his second on HBO after 2014’s Love At The Store). 2017 will also see a new special from Silicon Valley‘s T.J. Miller called Meticulously Ridiculous. No premiere dates for the specials have been announced yet.
