HBO grits its teeth, responds to Trump's latest use of Game Of Thrones imagery
No, this isn’t a White Walker. It’s actually a “wight,” one of their brainless ice zombies. Photo: Alex Wong

Today, a redacted version of the Mueller Report was released, granting lawmakers and the public a chance to finally see what the Trump administration itself believes is bland and inoffensive enough to reveal without directly confirming that Donald Trump and everyone who works with him is a piece of shit and/or a criminal. It’ll all meaningless, of course, because nobody is actually willing to do anything to impede that motherfucker in any way, and the Democrats in power will continue to shrug their shoulders and keep moving along like the guy in Baseketball who says he’s gonna leave if Trey Parker and Matt Stone make fun of him 13 or 14 more times.

Anyway, the release of the redacted, pointless version of the report prompted Trump to get on Twitter (as most things do), where he posted a photo himself looking very orange and standing in front of the smokey remains of the United States (probably) with some bullshit text about “no collusion” in the Game Of Thrones font for some reason. This Game Of Thrones association is something he’s pushed in the past, presumably because someone who works for him thought it would make him seem cool and not because Trump has any awareness of pop culture outside of who was on The Celebrity Apprentice, and late last year HBO dropped the hammer by releasing a vicious statement about Trump’s flagrant use of its copyrighted imagery: “[We] would prefer our trademark not be misappropriate for political purposes.” Ooooh! You really showed him, guys. No wonder he… didn’t give a single shit about that and is still doing Game Of Thrones stuff.

This time around, though, HBO is seriously pissed, and it’s coming for Donald Trump like Daenerys and her dragons roasting those White Walkers at the end of last season. As reported by The Wrap, HBO released the following statement: “Though we can understand the enthusiasm for Game Of Thrones now that the final season has arrived, we still prefer our intellectual property not be used for political purposes.” In other words, “you guys rip on me 13 or 14 more times, I’m outta here.” Actually, it’s not even that, it’s basically just, “Hey, watch Game Of Thrones on Sunday.” It’s all stupid, and everyone involved is stupid by association.
