HBO is developing a romantic political drama for Patricia Clarkson

Proving that there’s more to its personality than existential detectives and graphic beheadings, HBO is developing a new hour-long romantic drama series. Called Elisabeth, the series is being created by Cairo Time and Inescapable’s Ruba Nadda and longtime HBO producer Alan Poul. Patricia Clarkson—who previously worked with Nadda on Cairo Time and October Gale, and Poul on Six Feet Under—is reportedly attached as both star and executive producer. Nadda is set to write the script, but she hasn’t produced anything yet, so all we know is that Elisabeth will be a love story “set in the world of international politics.” That’s opposed to a love story set in a cupcake shop or a teen cancer ward because this is HBO, okay?
