HBO is getting our hopes up about the fucking Deadwood movie again
In March, former Deadwood star Timothy Olyphant suggested that “there’s no fucking way” the long-in-the-works Deadwood movie will ever happen, crushing the hopes of everyone who wants to see some foul-mouthed cowboys on HBO who aren’t robots. Despite what Olyphant thinks, though, Deadline believes the Deadwood movie is closer to happening than ever before. That’s because HBO has been granted a $4.19 million tax incentive to film the movie in California, which means it has a “finished script and financing in place,” both of which are required before applying for the tax credit. Since HBO was approved, that means all of that is definitely in place. Plus, California law dictates that principal photography has to begin within 180 days—barring some “special circumstances”—so the Deadwood movie pretty much has to start filming by October.
To put it simply: In your face, Timothy Olyphant.
