HBO is now in the Zach Galifianakis business

Having spent the past two years providing one of the major reasons to watch Bored To Death, Zach Galifianakis has extended his relationship with HBO by signing a first-look deal with the network, who now owns the rights to everything dreamed up by his beard, the secret source of all his comedy. First up: A mockumentary series starring Brody Stevens, a longtime friend and collaborator of Galifianakis who’s had bit parts in The Hangover and Due Date, and who’s worked with him on VH1’s Late World With Zach and web videos such as The Brody Stevens Interview Challenge, a clip from which you can see below. Galifianakis is expected to appear on the series, as well as be part of a production team that includes Tosh.0 producer Mike Gibbons and director Jonathan Krisel of Saturday Night Live and most recently Portlandia. The show will reportedly follow a day in the life of Stevens as a comedian—which sounds a lot like the Louis C.K.-starring Louie, until you get to the part where Stevens is “described as a cross between George Plimpton and ‘Mr. Baseball’ Bob Uecker,” which is like making a cocktail that’s one part vintage Bordeaux and one part Big Red, but whatever.
