HBO renews Insecure and Ballers

HBO plans to keep us hella entertained, as Deadline reports the cable network’s just picked up Insecure and Ballers for a third and fourth season, respectively. HBO EVP of programming Amy Gravitt bragged that Issa Rae and Dwayne Johnson’s dramedies “connected with our viewers out of the gate. We’re so proud to work with Dwayne, Issa and all of the amazing talent in both shows.”

Though one series seems slightly more autobiographical than the other—but what do we know, maybe The Rock and The Winner do have business dealings—Insecure and Ballers are both keeping the summertime TV blues at bay. They‘ve benefitted from a Game Of Thrones lead-in, but Insecure and Ballers each have something to offer viewers who are catching their breath from the latest medieval melee; Rae’s series offers an all-too-rare look at the lives of mostly carefree black women, while Ballers holds court for Arli$$ fans (we’re not entirely certain about that last part). In any case, both shows will be around for at least one more season, which will allow Issa and Molly more opportunities to work out a hoeing strategy (though they could be past that point by the end of the current season), while Johnson and Rob Corddry will have another chance to bring an NFL team to Las Vegas.
