HBO’s developing a dark comedy about smuggling and sailing
Looks like HBO is tired of Game Of Thrones being its only (current) scripted show with smugglers running around on boats. (Unless Ballers has taken a particularly dark turn we’re unaware of.) Deadline reports the pay channel is developing The Loop, a half-hour dark comedy that brings together the worlds of smugglers and smug people who own sailboats, creating maximal levels of smugosity.
The show is created by Nancy Hower and John Lehr, whose previous series include the TBS sitcom 10 Items Or Less, which was presumably “very funny,” and the Hulu series Quick Draw. It will follow the exploits of a couple who “downsizes everything and chooses to sail the Loop—a nautical course that cuts through the heart of America. All goes wrong when they become entangled in a smuggling ring.” Assuming the title refers to the Great Loop—a 5,000 to 7,000 mile stretch that goes from the east coast of Florida all the way up through the Great Lakes—this series should make a nice way to avoid having to actually plan a vacation of your own. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy watching people who aren’t you deal with the headaches of being on the road—or rather, on the water. Though honestly, that sounds worse. Give us a strong wi-fi signal or give us death.
