HBO is taking its Ballers—and more—from Amazon Prime and going home. Vulture reports the premium-cable network will not renew its output deal with the streaming platform, which currently gives Amazon Prime subscribers unfettered access to acclaimed series like Deadwood, The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, and Flight Of The Conchords. The current deal expires May 2018. So, although time is running out for you to catch up on Boardwalk Empire, Eastbound & Down, and, uh, True Blood (which should be easier to finish, since the last couple seasons were pretty bad), you still have about a year to binge.
Vulture notes that HBO was probably motivated to let the deal lapse since it now has its very own streaming site, but the agreement made perfect sense for both the network and Amazon Prime when it was first signed in 2014. Amazon lacked the content, and HBO was hesitant to offer standalone subscriptions. But things are quite different in 2017, as they’ve each reached into the other’s territory.
