Hear a lean, not-so-mean, catchy new song by garage-rocker Dan Melchior
Dan Melchior has exhibited a zealous eclecticism over his past three decades as a recording artist—but his roots are in crude, fuzzed-out garage-rock. So it’s no surprise that on the title track of Hunger, the new album by his current outfit Dan Melchior Und Das Menace, he falls back on the familiar ground of garage-pop bliss. “Hunger,” which is being debuted here, rocks hard and sloppy but reveals a keening, lonesome heart at its core. The album’s tracks were chosen from unreleased songs the prolific Melchior had in his vaults, picked and put together by fan and fellow traveller John Dwyer of Thee Oh Sees. As a whole, the disc spans much of Melchior’s wide range, from drum-machine punk to art-damaged blues. But “Hunger” is the upbeat, bittersweet, candy center.
Hunger will be released June 24 via Castle Face.
