A “Southern gothic supernatural musical” may sound like one of the worst possible combinations of words, but the upcoming Ghost Brothers Of Darkland County has some legitimate bona fides: T Bone Burnett is supervising the music, John Mellencamp wrote the music and lyrics, and Stephen King penned the libretto. (Burnett describes the project as “a ghost story with music.”)
More impressive is the roster of artists Burnett has assembled to perform the musical’s songs, including Elvis Costello, Kris Kristofferson, Rosanne Cash, and Neko Case, among many others. Yesterday, Esquire premiered the Neko Case song “That’s Who I Am” ahead of the album’s June 4 release.
