Hear a song from Jack White’s pre-White Stripes band, Two Star Tabernacle

Despite what most people believe, Jack White didn’t simply appear fully formed as the pale, prolific, and hat-wearing musician we know him as today. He actually did things before The White Stripes, like walking through the park by the tree with Suzy Lee, resting upon the ground while looking at some bugs he found, and playing in a handful of pre-White Stripes bands. Now, some live recordings of those pre-White Stripe Bands will soon be released as part of the Third Man Records Vault subscription service.

This comes from Rolling Stone, which reports that the box set—”Vault Package 27”—includes live performances by Two Star Tabernacle, The Go, and Jack White And The Bricks, all recorded around the time The White Stripes released their self-titled debut album. The set is only available to Third Man Records Vault subscribers, and you have to sign up before January 31 in order to get it.

If you’re not enough of a Jack White fan to subscribe, or you just want a preview of what little Jack White sounded like, you can stream a clip of “Itchy” by Two Star Tabernacle below. You’ll have to head over to Rolling Stone to hear the full song.
