Hear Rick Springfield’s country-esque new single
Noted Star Wars collector Rick Springfield is a longtime pal of The A.V. Club: He contributed a remarkable acoustic Fleetwood Mac song to our Undercover series and joined us for an extensive tour of his acting career for our Random Roles feature earlier this year.
So he recently sent us a copy of “Down,” the second song off of his upcoming album Rocket Science, slated for release in February 2016. Springfield co-wrote the song with Rascal Flatts’ Jay Demacus while traveling on Demascus’ tour bus, which accounts for its country-esque slant. The song would fit right in at Nashville’s The Blue Bird, or possibly its fictional version, Nashville’s The Blue Bird. The amazing part is that the 66-year-old Springfield offers vocals on par with the ones on 1981’s Working Class Dog, and still rocks harder than most of us ever will.
