Heather Locklear hospitalized, reportedly undergoing psych evaluation

In an experience that she shares with many actors (and people from all walks of life) before her, Heather Locklear has had her struggles with addiction and mental illness. As The Los Angeles Times reports, that struggle has grown more serious: On Sunday, Locklear was reportedly taken to a Los Angeles hospital for a psychiatric evaluation after authorities were called to her home in Thousand Oaks, California. A rep for the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department says, “When [authorities] responded, they discovered a patient who needed medical help. That person was evaluated there and was later transported to a local hospital for further treatment.”

TMZ provides further details, saying that a family member called 911 on Sunday out of concern for Locklear’s well-being, telling operators she was lashing out at her parents and threatening self-harm. Contacted by the Times, Locklear’s publicist simply said that she is currently on “hiatus.” Locklear was arrested back in February on charges of domestic violence and misdemeanor battery after attacking police who came to her home on a domestic disturbance call. She was also arrested in 2008 on suspicion of a DUI, and has checked herself into rehab facilities several times over the years.
