Helix renewed for a second season
Get ready for Helix 2: Double Helix (title just a suggestion). According to The Wrap, SyFy has renewed its freshman series Helix for a 13-episode second season. The first season finale of the spooky sci-fi show about a viral outbreak at an arctic bio-research station airs this Friday, and fans can now watch with the assurance that Helix will return to be occasionally scary and often confusing next winter. Created by Battlestar Galactica’s Ronald D. Moore, Helix was something of a surprise success for SyFy: Despite airing on Friday evenings, the show managed to maintain a loyal fan base and average 2.1 million total viewers and 1 million in the key 18-49 demographic. No one is more excited about the show’s renewal than our own Sonia Saraiya, who can continue her Speculation Corner for all eternity—or until the vectors finally get her.
