Hellboy reboot in the works with David Harbour and director Neil Marshall

We might actually be getting a third Hellboy movie, but in a twisted devil’s bargain that seems appropriate for this series, the news comes with a big caveat. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Millennium is currently negotiating with producers Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin about rebooting the Hellboy series, but the studio will be doing it without original series director Guillermo Del Toro or star Ron Perlman. Instead, Game Of Thrones and The Descent director Neil Marshall will direct, with Stranger Things’ David Harbour in talks to play the eponymous demon. The project is tentatively called Hellboy: Rise Of The Blood Queen, and the script comes from Andrew Crosby, Christopher Golden, and Hellboy creator Mik Mignola.

Perlman has been trying to get a third Hellboy movie off the ground for several years, trying to single-handedly start up a grassroots campaign for it back in 2015. The 2004 original was a pretty big hit, but its 2008 sequel opened against The Dark Knight and didn’t stand much of a chance, leaving the studio to assume that a third movie about Ron Perlman being buried under red prosthetics simply wasn’t worth the trouble.
