Help the Standing Rock protesters by buying music from John Carpenter and Zola Jesus
For months now, thousands of protesters have been camped out in North Dakota, attempting to stop efforts to build the oil-carrying Dakota Access Pipeline through the lands of the Standing Rock reservation. Back in October, internet advocates showed their support for the protesters by listing their location as Standing Rock on Facebook, in an effort to stop local law enforcement from being able to use the social network to identify and target specific people in attendance.
Now, online supporters have another way to lend help to the protests, while also filling out their music collection with the work of some pleasantly eclectic artists. Stereogum reports that New York’s Sacred Bones label is offering a special sale on its entire digital catalog: Pay whatever you want, with all the proceeds going to Standing Rock. Said catalog includes an album from synth pop artist Zola Jesus, plus works from directors David Lynch and John Carpenter (and a bunch of other artists, to boot). Lynch’s stuff is mostly moody ambient weirdness—including the Eraserhead soundtrack, while Carpenter is offering up the legendary themes from Halloween, Escape From New York, and both of his Lost Themes concept albums.
You can see the entire catalog of Sacred Bones’ digital sale right here. The sale runs through December 4.
