Here are all the different women who could co-star in Johnny Depp's Thin Man remake

Johnny Depp and Rob Marshall seem to be ramping up their remake of The Thin Man as the very next nostalgia property to be slapped up with a dab of Depp, but before they can progress to adding their shiny, Sherlock Holmes-like stylization to Dashiell Hammett’s classic detective story, there’s the small matter of finding a Nora to Depp’s Nick—sadly necessary, because Depp cannot simply don a dress to play both parts, as much as he would welcome the chance to double up on hats. So instead Marshall is meeting with a short list of leading ladies to play Depp’s tippling, tart-tongued romantic/crime-fighting partner, and surprise surprise, pretty much every woman who’s starred in a successful movie in the past few years and isn’t Angelina Jolie or Jennifer Aniston is on it.

Deadline says the list of contenders so far includes Depp’s Dark Shadows co-star Eva Green, Amy Adams, Emma Stone, Carey Mulligan, Rachel Weisz, Isla Fisher, Emily Blunt, and Kristen Wiig—a roster that varies greatly in comedic sensibility (Kristen Wiig or Rachel Weisz: ¿Quien es mas hilarioso?) and potentially unsettling age differences, yet represents the fairly wide net they’re casting here, and the fact that they clearly have no idea of what sort of tone they're going for yet. Indeed, if you are a female star—although not the caliber of star that could potentially overshadow Johnny Depp—and you didn’t get an audition, you should probably feel bad. Feel bad, Blake Lively. Anyway, as for the rest of you: Commence arguing over their respective qualifications for the role, because Marshall will definitely read this looking for suggestions.
