Here are the creepy prayer cards they’re handing out at screenings of Mother!
Pretty much all anyone knows of Mother!, the new Darren Aronofsky film starring Jennifer Lawrence as a woman to whom something very terrible happens, is that something terrible happens to Jennifer Lawrence in it. Or maybe it doesn’t, but that’s certainly the vibe we’ve been given. The few trailers are all full-time, in-the-red freakouts, and most advance notice of the film is from people talking about taking up yoga and going on a juice cleanse after watching it. In terms of horror movie hype, it doesn’t get much better than that.
At Toronto International Film Festival, early viewers were handed these prayer cards featuring an inversion of the Lord’s Prayer called “Mother’s Prayer,” credited to writer Rebecca Solnit. Everything about it is… not right.
Honestly, the creepiest part isn’t “underfoot” but the phrase “vast but finite bounty.” Finite? Consumption? We’ll let your mind do the rest.
